Patterns Used: Simplicity 1459 (dress) & Butterick B5824 (coat)
January 10, 2016 – It’s been beginning to look a lot like Christmas
I’ve decided that I need to get back into sewing, and after catching up on reading other costumers’ blog posts, I found inspiration to make a 1950’s Christmas dress with matching coat. I am still narrowing down the patterns I want to use (it’s down to just a couple for each garment), but I have decided that I must have a red crinoline, edged in green ribbon to go under my dress. I’ll update as I go.
January 11, 2016 – Progress has been made!
I know that I have until December to get this done, but no time like the present to nail down details. I have decided on the patterns I will be using. For the dress, I will be going with Simplicity 1459. This pattern has great potential for the dress that I want to make. Any Christmas style fabric I find will work with it. For the coat, I will be using Butterick B5824. I have seen some great reviews of this pattern, and it’s the style that I want. I am pretty sure that I want this in black, so I will just concentrate on finding a nice wool/wool blend coating material to use. As for my crinoline, I’ll just use the same pattern I used for the last one, with a few minor adjustments so that it fits a tad better. I must say…. I am getting excited to start sewing again.
